ORC Week 8: Guest Room Reveal

mid-century modern guest room

I cannot believe I am writing this, but I FINISHED THE GUEST ROOM! This home project was indeed a labor of love. I came up with the idea to wallpaper the ceiling a few months ago and cannot believe I could execute it and the other design elements over the last eight weeks. Is the room perfect? NO! BUT that is the beauty of DIY and teaching ourselves how to complete home projects independently.

The guestroom was a blank slate before. All the items in the room were furniture/decor we had on hand when we moved into our house in December 2019. I decided to keep the bed frame because I felt like it went with the design I was hoping to achieve

The Project List

  • Paint all walls, trim, and baseboards
  • Wallpaper the ceiling
  • Install new ceiling fan
  • Add a rug into the room
  • Buy nightstands
  • Create gallery wall
  • Update decor items to match mid-century modern style

I still cannot believe I wallpapered the ceiling by myself. I can be a stubborn mule and knew I wanted to try to do it on my own. There was LOTS of trial and error, but I ended up cutting the wallpaper into three sections so they were easier to manage with one person. The little giant ladder was the REAL MVP because I could customize the height AND climb up both sides of the ladder.

A special THANK YOU to the brands and sponsors who truly made this design come to life.

Blueprint Lighting – Blueprint Lighting is the brand that handcrafted the gorgeous Lucienne Table Lamps featured in the guestroom. Blueprint Lighting provides handcrafted, unique modern lightening in 36 color enamel options and 6 metal finishes. I had mine created specifically for me in a brushed brass metal. You can purchase the Lucienne Table Lamp HERE.

Loloi Rugs – Since the design was inspired by Chris Loves Julia’s “Polly’s Room Reveal” I felt I needed to have one of their Loloi Rugs in my guestroom. I chose Chris Loves Julia x Rosemaire ROE-01 Sage/Blush Oriental Area Rug in 8 feet by 10 feet. It arrived exactly how I anticipated. It is soft, yet add texture and dimension I was hoping for. The color description is accurate and I could not be more pleased.

Hound Paint – The wall, trim, and baseboard color is Chesapeake Oyster by Hound Paint. I was impressed by the high quality of the paint and loved that it was quickly delivered to my door, so I never had to step foot into a hardware store.

Spoonflower – CAN WE JUST APPRECIATE THIS GORGEOUS FLORAL WALLPAPER?! The moment I saw it, I KNEW it was the perfect option for the guestroom. The Sage Peony Cascade from Cotton_Avenue is gorgeous! I used Non-Pasted Traditional Pebble. I feel so honored to work with Spoonflower.

Hunter Fan Company – My ceiling fan got a MUCH needed upgraded with the Hepburn fan in Modern Brass and Aged Oak! I feel like she flows with the room so much better. Installing a ceiling fan is NOT as intimidating as it may seem. Just make sure you turn off the breaker and follow the instructions provided by Hunter Fan Company.

Opposite Wall – The frames and prints came from Opposite Wall. I chose the Edelweiss, Zephyr, Simple Joys, and Golden Hour from the Idyll collection. The frames are Dark Oak and Gold Metal. If you see a print or frame you like from Opposite Wall, you can use “WITHLAMBERTS” for 25% off your entire order. They have more than 2,000 poster on their website and launch new prints collections every month.

Freeform Brushes – IF YOU HAVE NOT TRIED A FREEFORM PAINT BRUSH – THIS IS YOUR PSA TO DO SO. Freeform created grip-free fatigue brushes and they truly mean it! You can purchase Freeform Brushes at Walmart! I am a convert for life now.
